Suzuki Music Cello PD Page
Melbourne, April, 2026
This website (including videos and downloads) will be available for 2 months after this session is over.
I have hundreds of hours of teacher training modules and lesson observations on my website. I've added links above to videos that might be of the most interest to many of you. If you're interested in more videos, you can subscribe to my website. My student site has a lot of free resources, as well as my free teacher resource page.
Concept List
My Concept List is central to my teaching. This is what I use to separate myself from the restrictions of repertoire and follow the child more freely. Some of you know know about this, since you attended my online workshop. I have since updated my Concept List and the accompanying videos. I thought some of you might like to take a look, since this is, according to participants, the single most useful thing I address in teacher training. Below is linked the pdf of the Concept List as well as a series of videos explaining each of the concepts individually. In our sessions, I will not refer to the Concept List except in passing, so this is all extra material.

Shifting as a Sequence
I cover most of my "old finger" shifting technique through scales, and then one of the first "new finger" shifts" in the repertoire is the big shift in Humoresque. I address thumb position setup through 5th position exploration, and I address getting from 1st to upper positions through my Cellympic event called "Octave Slides."

Cellympics
Cellympics is central to my technique curriculum. We solidify setup and technique through these fun events. I used to have trophies, but now I just do a Cellympics Passport, in which students receive stamps from each judge. It's crazy fun. Please look at one of the recap videos to get an idea of what the event is before diving into the pedagogy videos. I won't have a lot of time to dive into Cellympics in our training sessions, but I do hope to do some events with the students.
