INTRODUCTION

I have a great deal of resources on the teacher training portion of my website. I might reference these videos during my talks at the conference, so I thought I would include some of those videos here for you to watch without dealing with my paywall. More teacher training videos (both paid and free), as well as hundreds of hours of lesson observations, are available on the "Training Pages" menu of my website.

I will be leading the SAA Cello Ensemble after the 8pm keynote tonight (Friday). Come to our concert if you are interested in cello ensemble!

PEDAGOGY VIDEOS

The link below is my Concept List, which is the topic of the videos immediately beneath the button. This is basically my technique curriculum for my students. It is what allows me to free myself from being restrained by repertoire. There are also some lesson recordings in case you want to see how I use the Concept List in the wild.

Cellympics pedagogy videos are in this playlist:

MUSCLES

I usually refer to these muscles when I work with students, so I thought I would post these here ahead of time for easy access.

THUMB MUSCLE

This is the muscle we need to engage in both hands.

OTHER STUFF

Here are some links to pages related to cello performance that I think no cellist should do without. There are also links to the things that have inspired me lately.

Ayanna Witter-Johnson is a riveting performer and creator. She recently toured with Peter Gabriel on his i/o tour. I am performing her piece, Rise Up Riddim, with the Suzuki Cello Ensemble at this conference on Friday night at 8pm. The captivating video above is what introduced me to her, and this video is also great. I've since performed with her, and I can attest that she's an incredible human being.

This is written by Thomas Demenga, who is an amazing cellist/composer. The beginning of another one of Demenga's pieces, EFEU is incredibly compelling. Kian Soltani, the talented cellist in the video above, is also a composer. In this video, he beautifully performs his piece, Persian Fire Dance.

I adore this cello ensemble piece by Paul Wiancko, called When the Night. It utilizes the cello beautifully, and this is such a captivating performance by the Colorado Cello Quartet. I also love the viola-cello duo he wrote, entitled American Haiku

I happen to know Stephan Braun's playing better than the other cellist here. Stephan is incredibly talented and crazy-versatile. This other cellist here is amazing, too, though. The world of jazz cello is growing stronger every few years, and I'm looking forward to seeing what becomes of that growth.
